REGISTER
IANNELLA TO JOIN WITH BOSTON.COM FOR LIVE INTERNET
CHAT; INVITES QUESTIONS AND COMMENTS FROM RESIDENTS OF SUFFOLK
COUNTY:
Register
of Probate Richard Iannella goes ‘on-line’ to answer the
questions and concerns of Suffolk County residents during an
upcoming live Internet chat. The session will take place on
the popular Boston.com Internet Web site on Monday, January 14th,
2002 at 12:00 noon.
“Anyone
with Internet access will be able to post a question for our
staff to answer, with plenty of opportunity for follow-up
questions,” said Register Iannella. “I am excited about
the fact that we are reaching out to the public in this new
way for the first time, and look forward to providing those
who have questions with the answers and information that they
need.”
The
Registry’s community outreach efforts are particularly
designed to assist those who come to court without a lawyer.
(In up to 70% of cases that are heard by the court, one or
more litigants appears without an attorney.) To assist these
individuals, Register Iannella established the Addington
Resource Center – the first self-help center of its kind in
the state. Most recently, Iannella began holding informational
meetings in neighborhoods throughout Suffolk County, marking
the first time that the Probate and Family Courts have reached
out to the community in this way.
“Because
our office has legal jurisdiction over probate and
family-related matters, it is likely that most everyone will
pass through our doors at some point in their lives,” said
Register Iannella. “Our job is to make that visit as quick
and effortless as possible, and so we’re always finding new
and unique ways to reach out to and assist the public.”
